Klipsch Website Description
Klipsch, one of the first U.S. loudspeaker companies, has been building premium speakers since 1946. When Paul W. Klipsch—one of America’s most celebrated audio pioneers and Engineering and Science Hall of Fame inductee—founded Klipsch & Associates, he was operating out of a tin shed in Hope, Arkansas.
Paul Klipsch was a relentless perfectionist who spearheaded the Hi-Fi movement with the company’s foundation product: the Klipschorn (patented in 1945 and still manufactured today). A true music lover, Paul’s ultimate goal was to reproduce the excitement of a live orchestra performance in his living room.
Movie theaters and concert halls had long used horns to reproduce motion picture soundtracks, however those horns, at over nine feet long, were much too large for use in the home. Klipsch achieved his objective by making the Klipschorn a fully horn-loaded design by folding the horn back onto itself and placing the speaker cabinet in a corner, making the walls of the room an extension of the horn—technology that established industry standards for high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, low distortion, smooth frequency response and powerful bass. As a result, horn loading has—and always will be—the driving force behind the Klipsch brand’s highly efficient, stunningly precise sound.
While the designs have changed along the way, the foundation of Klipsch's work — horn-loaded technology — has remained constant, allowing them to more closely reproduce the quality and tonal characteristics of live sound.
